On 6 March 2017, the Luxembourg Minister for Family and Integration, Corinne Cahen, officially handed over training certificates for socio-family assistance (ASF) functions to trainees employed in various social projects.
21 trainees have successfully completed this training which was created in 1990 to train people to accompany, mentor, guide and help children, young people and the elderly or the disabled.
The socio-familial aids intervene in a complementary way to other professionals in the medico-psycho-social sector, either in an open environment or in an institution.
According to the minister, they perform important tasks that contribute to the physical, psychological and social well-being of mentors.
The certificate entails in-service vocational training, which lasts for two years. The training consists of a 242-hour core curriculum followed by a specific module of 110 hours corresponding to the target population (elderly, child and family, disability and illness). Since its inception, it has been attended by more than 1,600 people.
