Joël Rollinger’s work, “One City - One World”, was inaugurated at a ceremony by the Council of Mayor and Aldermen at the Place du Théâtre today.
The Luxembourg artist’s 140 square-metre mural, created on commission of the city, was composed on made to measure metal plates, cut by Ferisol, before the artist then assembled them on the walls of the kiosk. With lively colours, and a pop style, the works gives a characterful edge to the space it occupies.
"The individual sides of the facade are divided into the everyday life of the city in terms of colour and content, so I selected red tones for the side of the theatre and green tones for the park. The painted scenes represent the various areas of the city, people walking around the market, pedestrian zones with strolling people, people sitting in a theatre and relaxed societies in the park,” said Rollinger.
The city commissioned the work, which took the artist six months to complete, to help reinforce the friendly, open character of the space, where the first public self-serve bookcase was installed.
