23 members of the Luxembourg armed forces were welcomed home on Saturday from their deployment in Kosovo as part of the Kosovo Force (KFOR). They were greeted with a ceremony at Luxembourg Airport attended by relatives of the deployed.
KFOR was established in 1999 to establish peace and stability at the end of the Kosovo War. Since the transition to the second stage of the disincentive phase in March 2011, the Luxembourg Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platoon has been directly subordinate to the headquarters of KFOR.
Following the Government's decision to redeploy the Luxembourg contingents, two contingents, KFOR 51 and KFOR 52, will leave for Kosovo. Luxembourg’s participation in the KFOR mission will therefore end in October 2017.
