The Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs Immigrés (ASTI) has awarded certificates to asylum-seekers who have taken part in the Connections work placement project.
Since its launch last January, two groups of asylum-seekers have received certificates for their participation in the Connections project; these certificates were given out on Friday 20 January 2017.
In the first group, 58 participants were registered in the first stage, 30 in the second, and a total of 20 attended at least 70% of all the activities, for which they received a certificate. Likewise, in the second group, 74 were initially registered and 29 received the certificate for participation from ASTI.
Four people also received certificates for their completion of the European Computer Driving Licence offered by the Chamber of Employees.
The project Connections, financed by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grand Duchesse Charlotte’s Manteneen project, aims to prepare refugees for the Luxembourgish job market by creating links between asylum seekers and businesses in the Grand Duchy.
As part of the project, which was first launched on 31 January 2016, participants can take part in three steps: through 14 information sessions on Luxembourg, its history, function and institutions, seven job preparation workshops, and a 6-month unpaid internship with a company. The participants are then awarded a certificate for having attended at least 70% of the proposed activities.
G-Media sarl (the publishers of Chronicle.lu), was one of the organisations participating in the Connections programme run by ASTI in collaboration with Luxembourg’s Ministry of Employment, with 2-6 week placements offered for five asylum-seekers who were about to receive their work visas for Luxembourg. The certificates were presented to those who has successfully completed their placements as well as having satisfactorily attended the ASTI-run information sessions.
