On Saturday 3 October 2026, the British Ladies Club (BLC) in Luxembourg held its annual Gala Night at the Parc Hotel Alvisse in Luxembourg-Dommeldange.
With the tagline "Elegance and Mystery", it was a glamorous affair, with the 50+ attendees dressing up "to the nines" for the special occasion.
After a welcome cocktail, the formal part of the evening got underway with speeches from the current BLC President and British Ambassador to Luxembourg.
Amy Grech, BLC President, thanked everyone for coming and introduced the BLC board, including Janet (Macey), Christina and Louise, and other members of the board.
She recalled the two new charities adopted by the board at the organisation’s AGM in September (see below; KJT and Femmes en Détresse were last year’s charities), and mentioned the raffle, encouraging attendees to be generous when purchasing tickets.
She also explained the rules of the surprise game to be played during the evening, a murder mystery set in the Mullerthal at a fictional chateau.
Ambassador Joanne Olivier thanked the club for having her back, having enjoyed last year’s event so much. She also thanked Amy Grech and her committee for organising the event.
She recalled the 50 years of the BLC, recognising that it has evolved over time, as have its activities, citing the recent Start up Pitching event as a prime example of new initiatives adapting to the changing roles of women, with many early members being trailing spouses. She mentioned the business and community roles many women in Luxembourg have, and stated that progress is being made resulting in more women in leadership roles.
She also addressed the club having members across so many nationalities, wishing the club many years ahead full of “friendship, community and achievement”.
The meal was self service, with both a cold buffet (with extensive salad choices) and a hot buffet (offering choices of a beef dish, a chicken dish and a prawn dish, with rice, potatoes and fresh vegetables), before an ice cream cake was served for dessert. Wine, water and soft drinks were served at the tables.
The murder mystery featured six characters (all different nationalities and backgrounds) staying at a chateau when a valuable ruby was stolen. With three pages of storyline, each table had to work out whodunnit and come to a consensus before writing down who they thought the thief was.
When the answer sheets had been collected, Amy Grech announced the identity of the thief which she confirmed no table had correctly guessed…
Musical entertainment was a DJ who had many people on the dance floor after the main course had finished.
A charity raffle raised around €700, with prizes including chocolates, crémant and a hamper, in aid of both the Luxembourg Association for Children in Hospitals Asbl (LACH) and Ask for Angela Asbl.
