In order to protect water resources that are used for human consumption, the Luxembourg Governing Council recently approved 13 preliminary drafts of Grand-Ducal Regulations creating protection zones around groundwater catchments.
In order to best inform stakeholders, several public meetings were held in late June and early July in the presence of the Minister of the Environment, Carole Dieschbourg and Secretary of State for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Camille Gira.
Pursuant to Article 44 (4) of the amended law of 19 December 2008 on water, 13 records, including hydrogeological study catchments, mapping the boundaries of protected areas as well as the text of the Draft Grand-Ducal Regulation creating protection zones around groundwater abstractions will now be deposited in the communal houses concerned, to be open to the public.
The following municipalities are affected by one or more projects of Grand-Ducal regulations Beckerich, Bettendorf, Boevange-sur-Attert, Contern, Echternach, Grosbous, Hesper, Hobscheid, Kehlen, Kopstal, Luxembourg City, Lorentzweiler, Mertzig, Niederanven Préizerdaul, Rambrouch, Redange-sur-Attert, Saeul, Sandweiler, Schuttrange, Septfontaines, Steinsel, Useldange, Vichten, Wahl, Walferdange and Weiler-la-Tour.
