The publications of Luxembourg's 70 libraries are now available online in a more streamlined system due to the redeveloped a-z.lu initiative from the Bibliothèque Nationale de Luxembourg (BNL).
With the intention of developing its online services and increasing the digital literacy of the public, BNL has reformulated the research tool of the library network bibnet.lu, adapting it to suit the specific needs of each user. Around 70 libraries in Luxembourg comprise this network, allowing users to search for, order or view their publications online.
The a-z.lu site was originally established in May 2013 and now allows for the use of several lines of research according to the profile of the user. For example, a user may wish to view 'all content' and would then be able to select Tab 1, printed ot digital, or can choose to view only the online resources of the 'digital library' through Tab 2. In addition, an individual who would like to limit their research from all documents on the network may do so by narrowing the field to just the library with which they are registered. Tab 4 allows this fast and direct access.
The online resources have reportedly been grouped in two tabs, these being 'Bibliothèque numérique ('digital library') and 'Eluxemburgensia' under Tab 3. The former includes all of the available online content, such as ebooks, scientific articles and databases including Luxembourg's heritage; whilst the 'eluxemburgensia' allows for a more specific request, focusing more on digitised Luxembourgish journals and reviews.
The BNL stated that it hoped with the new a-z.lu system, each user will be able to tailor their online reading processes to their individual preferences and needs.
