On Wednesday 20 May 2026, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that 20,140 resident jobseekers were registered as available for work at the end of April 2026, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 6.3%.
The number of resident jobseekers stood at 20,140 as of 30 April 2026, an increase of 1,544 people (+8.3%) compared with the same period last year. As in previous months, highly qualified jobseekers were particularly affected, with an increase of 17.8% year-on-year. By age group, the strongest increases were recorded among 30- to 44-year-olds (+10.9%) and young jobseekers (+8.0%).
Job profiles sought have remained broadly unchanged over recent months, with the largest increases in demand observed in IT, secretarial and administrative support, and accounting professions. April 2026 also saw notable rises in occupations linked to organisation and research, as well as culinary production.
New registrations of resident jobseekers rose by 3.6% year-on-year, with 2,466 people registering in April 2026 compared to 2,380 in April 2025.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits fell by 4.4% over one year to 10,181. Those with professional redeployment status receiving either waiting or professional allowances stood at 1,533, up 0.9% year-on-year. A total of 4,575 residents benefited from an employment support measure (+0.4%).
For non-resident jobseekers, ADEM recorded 4,297 registered individuals at the end of April 2026, up 22% year-on-year. Of these, 55.8% held external professional redeployment status, making them eligible for financial assistance from ADEM under the same conditions as residents. This group increased by 9.4% over one year.
The second category consists of non-residents who register voluntarily with ADEM without receiving financial support. This group accounted for 1,901 people at the end of April 2026, following 813 new registrations that month (+11.2% year-on-year), and represents 44.2% of all non-resident jobseekers. This category recorded a sharp annual increase of 42.7%.
Among non-residents with external professional redeployment status, 1,044 received full unemployment benefits as of 30 April 2026, a decrease of 6.3% year-on-year. In addition, 1,809 received waiting or professional allowances, an increase of 6.9% over one year.
In April 2026, employers reported 3,052 job vacancies to ADEM, down 14.7% compared to April 2025. However, the number of available vacancies at the end of the month rose to 7,448, an increase of 3.4% year-on-year. As observed in March, the strongest growth in demand was recorded in warehousing and logistics, industrial cleaning, and paramedical care.
