Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture has announced the appointment of Carlo Blum as Acting Director of the Centre National de l'Audiovisuel (CNA).
At its meeting on Wednesday 29 April 2026, the Government Council (cabinet) decided to propose to the Grand Duke of Luxembourg the appointment of Carlo Blum as Acting Director of the CNA, for the period from 1 May to 31 October 2026. He will lead the cultural institute until the recruitment process for a new director is completed.
Currently Deputy Director of the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL), Carlo Blum holds a degree in computer science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium. In 2000, he joined the BnL, where he headed the "Information Technology and Digital Innovation" department, leading key projects in digitalisation, long-term heritage archiving and technological innovation, while also working to optimise services for the public. In 2023, he became deputy director.
According to the ministry, Carlo Blum brings proven expertise in project management, organisational transformation and team leadership. His experience within a national cultural institution is considered an asset for ensuring continuity of the CNA's activities during a period of transition.
Commenting on his appointment, Carlo Blum stated: "Luxembourg's cultural institutions must work closely and collaboratively to meet current challenges. The CNA's missions - preserving, promoting and transmitting audiovisual heritage - are of fundamental importance. I am committed to supporting the CNA and working alongside its team to address the challenges facing this institution."
In carrying out his duties, Carlo Blum will work closely with the Support Committee, which is responsible for advising and supporting the CNA in fulfilling its missions.
Carlo Blum's appointment follows the resignation of Gilles Zeimet, who served as CNA Director from September 2023 to April 2026. His resignation followed reported controversy concerning the institution, including issues related to the "Family of Man" exhibition in Clervaux.
