On Friday 6 June 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture announced that, on the proposal of Minister Eric Thill, the Cabinet (Government Council) decided to propose to HRH the Grand Duke the appointment of Mai Duong as Deputy Director of the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA).
Mei Duong, born on 16 July 1983, holds degrees in archaeology and art history from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, with a specialisation in the archaeology of historical periods. Mei Duong began her career in Paris working for French publishing houses and documentary film producers as an iconographer and researcher, before joining the CNRA (National Centre for Archaeological Research) in 2013 as a collaborator in the archaeological map department, responsible for producing an inventory of archaeological sites and mapping areas with archaeological potential. In 2015, she joined the archaeological monitoring department of regional planning. Aware of the importance of preventive archaeology and the need to integrate archaeology into town planning procedures in Luxembourg, she contributed to the implementation of the law of 25 February 2022 on cultural heritage. As head of department, she oversees the evaluation of development projects to determine their potential impact on archaeological heritage. She is expected to take up her new role as Deputy Director of INRA on 1 July 2025.
Following the entry into force of the law of 25 February 2022, on cultural heritage, the National Centre for Archaeological Research (CNRA) became the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA). INRA is responsible for the inventory, study, protection and development of Luxembourg's archaeological heritage.
