At its annual general meeting on Wednesday 21 June 2023, the newly elected ILA Board of Directors appointed Virginie Lagrange Chair of the Luxembourg Directors' Association (Institut Luxembourgeois des Administrateurs - ILA).
Virginie Lagrange is the third woman to be elected chair of the 3,000-member organisation. According to ILA, her election comes at a key moment given the rising importance of ensuring effective oversight of business activity.
Virginie has been a member of the ILA Board of Directors and ILA Vice-Chair since 2021. She is an ILA Certified Director and has participated in several ILA Working Committees over the years. As ILA representative, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Confederation of Directors' Associations (ecoDa) for two years.
Virginie succeeds Carine Feipel, who has just completed her second two-year term as chair, the maximum permitted under ILA rules.
According to ILA, Virginie has three decades of experience in Luxembourg's financial sector: first as an auditor at EY, then as Chief Risk Officer at UBS, CFO at Credit Suisse and Chief Administrative Officer at Nomura Bank. She has been a full-time non-executive director since 2018 and is board member of several banks, insurance and management companies.
Commenting on her appointment, Virginie Lagrange said: "It's an honour to succeed Carine who has positioned ILA as a central player for governance in Luxembourg. Working together with the ILA Board and Executive Committee, my priority is to ensure that ILA remains the reference association for all governance matters in Luxembourg and beyond, as well as providing quality services and training to our members."
Outgoing ILA Chair Carine Feipel added: "Over the past four years we have grown our association and fulfilled our role as being the voice of corporate governance in Luxembourg. Membership is up significantly, attracted by the new services and training options we have added. We also adapted our internal organisation and governance to help us better manage this growth." She thanked her team and the Board of Directors "for their support over the past four years."
ILA CEO Philipp von Restorff added: "I would like to thank Carine Feipel for her continuous support and for the fact that she and the ILA Board of Directors have successfully set the course for a sustainable future. I am very much looking forward to building on this foundation together with Virginie Lagrange and the new Board of Directors she chairs."
ILA confirmed the election of Raphaël Docquier, Emmanuelle Mousel, François Mousel and Garry Pieters to its Board of Directors. Vincent Decalf, Marjolijne Droogleever Fortuyn, Anne Kayser, Joachim Kuske, Pierre Margue and Frédéric Mouchel have been re-elected to the board. Monique Bachner and Michèle Eisenhuth, members of the ILA Board of Directors for the last twelve years, ended their maximal number of mandates and thus left the board. John Parkhouse decided not to stand for re-election.
For 2023-24, the ILA Board of Directors is composed as follows: Virginie Lagrange (Chair); Joachim Kuske (Vice-Chair); Alban Aubree; Julie Becker; David Capocci; Katia Ciesielska; Vincent Decalf; Raphaël Docquier; Marjolijne Droogleever-Fortuyn; Marc Feider; Linda Funck; Justin Griffiths; Anne Kayser; Pierre Margue; Frédéric Mouchel; Garry Pieters; Emmanuelle Mousel; François Mousel; Thomas Seale; Rosa Villalobos.
