The Luxembourg Institute of Directors (ILA) presented their new certification programme for company secretaries this week.

Catherine Beaujour, chair of the ILA company secretary committee, presented the new certification programme underlining the importance of the role played by company secretaries.

“The role and importance of company secretaries has significantly evolved in recent years in Luxembourg. They are the guardians of compliance in a company, a key contributor to good corporate governance, and a key facilitator for corporate governance work. Company secretaries are the premier interlocutor for stakeholders in the company,” she said.

The certification programme consists of eight modules or training sessions that aim to enable participants to:

• Understand the key components of company secretarial practice in Luxembourg;

• Learn about the respective roles and responsibilities of the key stakeholders;

• Explore the best corporate governance practices in order to ensure optimal board and management support;

• Assess board and key corporate bodies’ dynamics, and maximise personal effectiveness;

• Consider current developments, trends and topical issues.

“ILA’s goal is to promote corporate governance in Luxembourg for companies and institutions, we want to be there for all actors of corporate governance including company secretaries who are the guardians of corporate governance and the guardians of good processes. We very much look forward to this new certification programme” said Carine Feipel, independent director and member of the ILA Board of Directors, after the presentation of the programme.
