Following on from Jurassic Park, The Lost World and Jurassic Park III, this latest instalment in the hugely popular series inspired by author Michael Crichton is set when the park is open to the public.
The storyline, for what it's worth, is set around two brothers (Nick Robinson & ) who are invited to the park where their aunt Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) works. She is too busy to want to spend time with them and instead gets her assistant to do so. At the same time, an experiment to create a genetically-modified hybrid dinosaur to bring a new level of thrills to the park-going public, turns sour and this monster excapes to cause havoc across the island. The characters are split between goodies and baddies with little screen time devoted to delve deeper into thir personalities apart from what one sees on the surface.
Yes, the special effects are out of this world and are worth seeing alone, particular the signifianct winner-takes-all fight towards the end, and also the flying dinosaurs after they escape from the aviary (oops! spoliler alert...). But if you're into seeing an exciting new (screen) creation, then go back 20 years to Jurassic Park or, arguably even better, the second in the series, The Lost World.
