CinEast, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, is set to return next month with a 13th "hybrid" edition.

From 8 to 25 October 2020, the CinEast Festival will offer a hundred screenings of more than 45 feature films in Luxembourg cinemas as well as a large selection of films available online.

While respecting the restrictions in force linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the reduced number of spectators in cinemas, the CinEast Festival is returning to Luxembourg with a hybrid edition combining physical screenings across the country (Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinéma, CNA and others), which will take place in strict compliance with health recommendations, and online screenings via a video on demand (VOD) service.

The CinEast Festival is dedicated to Central and Eastern European cinema and the 2019 edition attracted more than 11,200 spectators. This year, the festival will offer around 50 feature films and some 30 short films from more than 20 countries of the former Eastern bloc. The country in the spotlight this year is Hungary and, for the first time, the festival will also present films from Belarus. A cycle of films, several cine-debates and a photographic exhibition will be devoted to the main theme of this 13th edition, “Planting the Future. Our planet and societies at a crossroads", which invites spectators to reflect on the lack of sustainability of the world's economic and social models.

The festival will also offer several accompanying events, including a film-concert in Neimënster and cafe-concerts at Melusina.

The full festival programme will be unveiled at the end of September.

The CinEast 2020 festival is organised by CinEast asbl in collaboration with the Cinémathèque, Neimënster, the Kinepolis group, Ancien Cinéma and others. Its main partners are the City of Luxembourg, the Ministry of Culture, Film Fund Luxembourg, Docler Holding and Kulczyk Investments.
