The first edition of the 'a CAPE'lla' festival was underway over the weekend, providing audiences with seven concerts, nine groups and four workshops.
The Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck (CAPE), which organised the event alongside London-based a capella expert Tobias Hug, stated that it was delighted with the response to this new festival concept and that plans were already in motion to establish it biennially.
The a CAPE'lla festival brought with it a variety of styles, from beatboxing in classical singing to pop a capella, as well as professional groups, amateur choirs and students performers from France, Germany and the Grand Duchy. The programme featured the Witloof Bay group from Belgium; Omm and The Big Mouths from France; Picante, Acoustic Instinct, Jazzchor Freiburg and Unduzo from Germany; and Luxembourg's own cantoLX and CMNord. The festival also offered workshops on beatbox and grooving rhythm.
CAPE Artistic Director Carl Adalsteinsson thanked the event's partners the City of Diekirch, the Conservatoire du Nord and the Institut Européen de Chant Choral (IECC), as well as the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte for its support.
