Luxembourg’s national railway company, the CFL, has announced the upcoming introduction of twelve new electric buses to Luxembourg’s public transport network.

As reported by the CFL, on Thursday 8 May 2025 at 14:00, twelve new electric buses and the associated charging infrastructure will be inaugurated in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CFL, Jeannot Waringo, and Director General of the CFL, Marc Wengler, at the CFL bus headquarters on Boulevard de Kyiv in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie.

The new electric buses will replace existing diesel-fuelled buses in the fleet and, as well as being quieter and more environmentally friendly, they feature sensors, cameras with a 360-degree view, screens and driving assistants to optimise comfort and safety. They also utilise a “Preventive Brake Assist” system, which is specifically tailored to urban traffic. The system recognises both pedestrians and objects and initiates partial braking in the event of danger. The driver can then respond appropriately. The system is radar-based and designed to work in poor weather conditions.

The CFL noted that accessibility is also a top priority in this new generation of buses, which feature seats with adapted armrests for people with reduced mobility and grab handles designed to help the visually impaired.

The CFL said it expects each bus to cover a distance of 90,000km per year and have a service life of eight years.
