The beginning of August has brought with it another surge in summer heat, with the Government today releasing its forecast for the weekend ahead and cautions of potential dangerous ozone levels in the atmosphere.
Temperatures for today, Friday 7 August 2015, are expected to peak at between 31° and 35°C. Some clouds will be visible in the sky, but not enough to diminish UV intensity from the sun. The wind blowing in from the southern region will be light during the day, and will grow in intensity towards the evening.
As was the case for the Grand Duchy in early July, these weather conditions pose a threat to ozone levels, with expected high concentrations over much of the country which may surpass the European threshold of 180 μg/m3. However, stormy gusts of wind predicted for Friday evening are expected to break up the ozone concentration.
For the rest of the weekend and Monday, temperatures are expected to fall again with more abundance of cloud cover. Pollutants in the atmosphere will also not pose as much of a threat after Friday, and are expected to range between 100 and 140 μg/m3.
