On Tuesday evening, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, visited the MUDAM contemporary art museum in Luxembourg-Kirchberg for an evening of Indian culture “a Night of India in Luxembourg” with members of the Indian community resident in Luxembourg, including representatives of both business and social networks, the Indian Business Chamber Luxembourg (IBCL) and the Indian Association Luxembourg (IAL).
India’s Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Ms Gaitri Issar Kumar, welcomed both the Indian Minister and the Indian diaspora and introduced the Minister by stating that she gas been elected to parliament seven times and is a role model around the world. She added that Luxembourg and India are celebrating 70 years of friendship.
Prior to the Night of India’s cultural concert of classical Indian music and dance, featuring celebrated violinist Ambi Subramanian and a dance recital by Nathalie Pieltain accompanied by Sitar Dust, Minister Swaraj addressed the reception attendees in the venue’s plus auditorium. She talked about entrepreneurship and innovation in respect of the ties between the two countries, and also referenced the trust that Luxembourg has shown to India in areas including regarding nuclear power. She said that she looks forward to collaboration extending to fintech, space and research, and acknowledged the Indian diaspora in Luxembourg celebrating Indian festivals, including Diwali, with traditional dance, music and song. She also wished Luxembourg a happy national day, to be celebrated on 23 June. She also addressed those attending in Hindi.
Before the speeches and concert, all those attending were treated to a reception with Indian finger food and drinks in the venue’s foyer.
Tuesday’s reception was part of the Minister’s itinerary on a two-day visit to Luxembourg which also involves meeting with Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Xavier , as well as Finance Minister, Pierre Gramegna.
