On 28 August 2015, the Independent Little Lies (ILL) theatre collective will be holding its fifth edition of 'Impossible Readings' at its summer residence in Walferdange.
The 'Impossible Readings' concept, which will be presented by Gast Groeber, Claudine Muno, Nathalie Ronvaux and Jeff Schinker, is based on the Japanese tradition of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, the origins of which are thought to lie in an old Samurai test of courage.
Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai was a parlour game in which participants would light 100 lamps in a room at night and begin telling ghost stories and folk tales in another separate room. Each story-teller, after recounting their tale, would go into the lamp room and extinguish one of the lights, with the room growing darker until the final one-hundredth tale.
The ILL audience will participate in a similar event, with four candles and story-tellers instead. The event will be held on a 'pay what you can' basis, and food and drinks will be provided in the garden.
ILL is an interdisciplinary theatre network which has been assembling theatre figures and artists to address modern-day social issues in four languages for the past twenty years.
