On Tuesday 4 January 2022, the Atelier Steffen held a "pre-opening" at their new eat-in "La Mezzanine du Boulevard" restaurant and "L'Atelier Royal" take-out (ground-floor shop) at 10 Avenue Monterey in Luxembourg-ville, strategically located at the junction of Boulevard Royal.

Since 15 December, the Steffen group has been operating a "slow opening" to test their new flavours / dishes and optimise the service of their 1st-floor "Mezzanine" restaurant, with the ground-floor shop open for business since that date. The "La Mezzanine du Boulevard" restaurant is scheduled to open on Thursday 6 January 2022; originally they had hoped that it could open last September but various issues related to the pandemic resulted in the delay until now.

The Atelier Steffen in Luxembourg-ville is the most recent outlet since the Steffen Group (Maison Steffen, headquartered in Steinfort), with the company's background in catering, branched out with a butcher's shop in Steinfort (it now operates 5 in total), the La Table de Frank restaurant in Steinfort and - most recently, in July 2019 - the Le Quai Steffen restaurant / take-away opened inside the train station concourse at Luxembourg-Gare.

The large glass windows and the interior decor - trendy colours of powder pink and pine green, with white walls and light brown furniture - make for a natural and calming setting right in the centre of the bustling city. The "La Mezzanine du Boulevard" restaurant can cater for 40 covers at tables seating 2, 4 and 6 people, and offers fresh and seasonal products and a bar has also been installed on the first floor which they plan will be used as an after-work meeting-point.

The shop has a wide range of fresh products on the menu, including pastries, sandwiches, salads, hot and cold dishes, and even soups and desserts, with various ready-made meals from the Atelier Steffen range. The restaurant features small neat dishes, e.g. eggs prepared according to a special Turkish recipe and also tapas, with a range of baked potato dishes also available.

At Tuesday's pre-opening, Tom Steffen, CEO at the Steffen Group, thanked the Project Director, Marion, for getting the new project off the ground in what he described as "a difficult period", but one in which they "came up with a dynamic concept". He referenced the close proximity to the LuxTram stop (Hamilius) and the underground parking entrance, as well as offices, shops and housing. "Our experience with the take-away and the restaurant at the station confirmed our desire to invest in a similar project in the city. The opportunity arose with this strategic location in this Royal-Hamilius business centre. The tram stop just in front of the take-away also guarantees us natural attendance" he stated.

Lisa Steffen explained that she is "very happy that the restaurant is nearly open" and shared that it will be open daily from 07:00 (initially it will be open to 19:30 daily (Mon-Sat, and on occasional Sundays too), with the possibility to change/extend these hours, based on demand). She described the concept, her "baby", as "Classic with class" and acknowledged the great family togetherness of the team behind the project, not to mention the 20+ partners involved at various stages of its realisation.

Frank Steffen, father of Tom and Lisa, and founder of the company, explained “Everything has been done to ensure that the customer's experience touches all of their senses: tastes, scents, music, decoration, comfort and well-being. Likewise, our employees will be able to work in an ergonomic and comfortable place."

The "L'Atelier Royal" take-away employs 12 people and the "la Mezzanine du Boulevard" restaurant employs 14 people.

As Lisa Steffen explained, “The ambition of this new take-away and restaurant is to provide a culinary experience that meets the expectations of our future customers, in a pleasant, comfortable place, with a signature Steffen service”.
