Following the opening of KFC in Esch-Belval in October 2024, the second has now opened in Capellen.
Firce Capital, KFC’s franchise partner in Luxembourg, announced in March that it would open two new restaurants in 2025 in the Grand Duchy, with Capellen scheduled to open in October and Luxembourg-Gare in November this year. By 2030 (put back from the 2028 date mentioned in March) it aims to have ten KFC restaurants operating in the Grand Duchy.
"The rapid success of the first KFC opening shows that the quality of the brand's products and service perfectly meet the demanding standards of Luxembourg consumers. We will be able to develop the concept in strategic locations… After the opening of the first Drive, we hope to open soon in the city centre of the capital,” emphasised Kevin Fournage, Head of Business Development at Firce Capital.
On Tuesday 4 November, just a few days after the end of October, KPC Capellen opened its doors in the Capellen Business Park in a space of 480m2 which includes both 100 seats indoors and 32 on a terrace, as well as a Drive-Thru service, the first of its kind for a KFC restaurant in Luxembourg, and a children's play area, thus offering dine-in, takeaway and delivery options in an area that until now had had no fast food options.
The KFC Capellen has been designed to feature blending wood, metal and ceramic tiles for a warm and contemporary atmosphere. It is managed by Mathilda Mercier (Restaurant Manager) and Pasquale Torcasso (Director of Operations for the Grand Duchy), with 40 new jobs being created and is open seven days a week.
According to Firce Capital, the entire supply network in Luxembourg relies on the brand's French partners to guarantee a solid, local and close-knit supply chain, faithful to the brand's quality and sustainability standards. 100% of the chicken fillets used in burgers and wraps, as well as 100% of the hot wings served in its restaurants, are of French origin, with Colonel Sanders' famous breading being handcrafted using 100% French flour.
Talking with Chronicle.lu at the opening, Kevin Fournage, Head of Business Development at Firce Capital, explained the reasons for the slight delay: "The main challenges are always the supply chain because we have about 60 suppliers that all need to merge together to a final date, and there's been some slight production delays on the finishing of the restaurant, so we thought it's better to open in good conditions two weeks later than anticipated".
Asked about the supply chain being primarily French suppliers and if Luxembourgish suppliers would be brought on, he stated: "they [French suppliers] supply ... the food the client eats and all the materials we use to prepare the food, and there are local suppliers for all the construction works that is done to build a restaurant like this... For the chicken, the industry in Luxembourg is way too small for the quantities we actually need for KFC, so we will rely ... on French suppliers mostly, and the standards of franchisor that's based in France, but then we have other more local suppliers in Luxembourg that we want to get on board in the future. So we first need a few additional restaurants to have a certain size to develop our own logistics in the Grand Duchy".
On the 40 new jobs created, he confirmed that all are direct staff; he also confirmed: "on top of that, I think in terms of cleaning and maintenance, there's at least seven to ten additional indirect jobs from these suppliers".
On the other locations forseen, he stated: "All I can say is that we want to expand as well in the north and towards the east, because right now, we are in Belval, which is south-west, Capellen towards Belgium; the city centre is already disclosed, and then after that, we still want to get close to the clients that are further north, towards the east as well".
The Luxembourg-Gare KFC restaurant will be smaller, at 200m2, and will be located at 43 Avenue de la Gare; its opening has been put back to "early 2026".
