On Thursday 23 April 2026, the Japanese restaurant Matsuri Luxembourg held the official opening of its first establishment in Luxembourg, located at the Infinity complex in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
The event introduced guests to the brand’s contemporary design, Japanese cuisine and its signature kaiten concept, where dishes circulate on a moving conveyor belt. Located on the first floor of the Infinity complex, the space offers around 50 seats and features an interior by Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios, combining a modern aesthetic with stylised Japanese text elements on metallic walls.
The evening programme did not include any formal speeches, instead the event had a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with a focus on personal interaction. Accompanied by the live set from the local DJ Morning Call, staff members approached guests to explain the food, answer questions and simply chat.
Throughout the evening, guests sampled a range of sushi with both raw and grilled fish and meat options. Among the restaurant’s highlighted specialities were “sashizza”, a crispy gyoza-based galette topped with tartares such as tuna, avocado or salmon, as well as spring rolls and “chirashi” bowls. The restaurant presented these dishes as distinctive creations not commonly found in traditional sushi venues.
The menu showcased restaurants' pricing system based on plate selection, where each plate corresponds to a specific price category. According to the pricing, lunch is €16.99 and includes three plates with miso soup and rice, while dinner costs €29.99 and includes five plates.
The opening brought together influencers, media representatives and guests connected to the brand, including visitors from its location in Metz, France. The team on site included around six chefs, service staff and members of the communication team.
Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Sixtine Guitard, Development Assistant at Matsuri, explained that the brand has undergone significant transformation in recent years. She noted that new owners acquired the company three years ago, at a time when it operated twelve restaurants originally established since 1986, primarily in Paris, alongside locations in Lyon and Bordeaux in France.
She pointed out that the new leadership chose to retain the kaiten concept as the core identity of the brand, while modernising its overall environment.
Sixtine Guitard described the Luxembourg opening as a key milestone, stating that it represents “the first Matsuri location in Europe outside France”. She also explained that choosing locations is an important part of the brand’s growth, noting that the CEO studies each market before opening and works with local partners such as Bertrand Smets, Project Manager at SMETS, who supported the launch in Luxembourg.
Looking ahead, she noted that the brand plans further expansion, with upcoming openings in Switzerland and Belgium. She added that the Luxembourg location will introduce additional features, including a terrace and regular Thursday DJ events, in line with the Infinity complex’s role as a post-work meeting spot.
