Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture has launched a call for projects to participate in the second Luxembourg edition of the "Rendez-vous aux jardins" initiative, which will take place from Friday 3 to Monday 6 June 2022, around the theme of "Gardens facing climate change".
Designed to awaken the senses and allow everyone to discover the variety and richness of gardens, this initiative highlights the art of the garden and gardening heritage, as well as their essential role in one's wellbeing and identity both in towns and in rural areas.
"Rendez-vous aux jardins" was launched in 2018 by HEREIN, a European network for information and cooperation on cultural heritage which brings together European public administrations responsible for national policies and strategies in the cultural heritage sector. In 2021, 21 European countries took part in the initiative, opening up 2,958 gardens and parks to the general public. A total of 2,139 visitors were counted at the 50 participating Luxembourg sites last year, despite the gloomy weather and COVID-19 restrictions.
Municipalities, non-profit organisations, foundations and establishments of public interest, private individuals, schools, cultural institutions and commercial companies are invited to submit their projects for this year's edition to Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture until 8 May 2022, either online at: www.jardinsluxembourg.lu or via email: robert.philippart@mc.etat.lu.
In addition to the opening of private and public parks and gardens, the programme, which is aimed at a very wide audience, will feature guided tours, know-how demonstrations, garden circuits, musical walks, games and competitions, plays and conferences, among other activities. Sites participating in "Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022" will be able to display the event logo for the duration of the event.
The full programme will be available nearer the time on the aforementioned website.
