On Friday 14 June 2024, SERVIOR celebrated the laying of the first stone of "Beim Roude Fiels", the new home for elderly people in Rumelange.

As reported by care home provider SERVIOR, the event represents a key moment for the infrastructure intended for senior citizens in the region.

The laying of the first stone was carried out by Luxembourg's Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, Max Hahn, the Mayor of Rumelange, Henri Haine, the President of the Board of Directors of SERVIOR, Dominique Faber, and the Managing Director of SERVIOR, Alain Dichter. Several MPs also attended the event. Other guests included representatives of the City of Rumelange, the board of directors, general management and the management of this project internally at SERVIOR. The architectural firm AEA-Ballinipitt, the technical design offices Drees & Sommer, Felgen and SGI, as well as the construction company Poeckes were also present.

Last year, the old house was demolished on the same site, as it no longer met the demands and expectations of current and future generations in terms of comfort and legal obligations. In 2022, the residents of the old structure were able to find a new home - and employees a new workplace - in the newly opened "Woiwer" house in Differdange. Since then, preparations for the new project have been underway.

The building will house 120 "comfortable" rooms, also suitable for residents with disabilities or reduced mobility. 40 rooms are reserved for residents of Rumelange. The complex extends over four floors and covers 13,300 m² on 1.3 hectares of land. In addition, 70 parking spaces are available.

The premises include a main restaurant, a cafeteria, a bar, a hairdresser, a small store and a multipurpose room which can be privatised for family celebrations, for example. An interior courtyard with a fountain, a terrace and loggias on all floors aim to promote well-being, outdoor relaxation and exchanges between residents. Rooms dedicated to medical care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are also available. At the same time, the establishment is designed to offer "the best possible" working conditions for staff.

SERVIOR noted that it attaches great importance to sustainability in construction and takes into account the highest ecological and energy standards. Green roofs and facades, rain harvesting and a solar installation are part of the concept. In the long term, a "smart" structural approach will make it possible to adapt the building to new standards and technologies.

The new house is expected to retain the "welcoming" and "friendly" character of the old centre, which represents a symbol of life in an intergenerational community for residents of Rumelange. The planned intergenerational space, with a play area and a pergola, is designed to further promote this bond between young and older people. The financing and maintenance of the playground are covered by the City of Rumelange.

Alain Dichter, Managing Director of SERVIOR, emphasised individual care: "Our goal is to offer our residents a home where they feel good and where they can really enjoy their life. The new house in Rumelange creates an ideal environment for seniors, with or without need for assistance, and offers our employees a modern working environment. We are very happy that this project is now taking clearly visible forms."

The opening of the "Beim Roude Fiels" retirement home is planned for 2027.
