Luxembourg’s Directorate for Consumer Protection announced that the first meeting of the cross-border economic protection network for consumers in the Greater Region was held on Tuesday 14 May 2024 at the Maison de la Grande Région in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Martine Hansen, Luxembourg’s Minister for Consumer Protection, welcomed the participants and thanked them for their commitment to consumers. She expressed her confidence in the positive impact that the creation of this cross-border network will have on consumers in the Greater Region.

Bringing together Belgian, German, French and Luxembourgish representatives in this area, this meeting made it possible to consider new initiatives to improve consumer protection in the Greater Region. Furthermore, the Directorate for Consumer Protection confirmed that such network meetings would be held at least twice a year, as was agreed on this occasion.

Stressing that the challenges of consumer protection are not limited to national borders, the minister insisted on the importance of this collaboration: “This reinforced cooperation represents a significant step forward in the promotion of consumer protection. By sharing our best practices, our experiences and our ideas between neighbours, I am convinced that consumer protection beyond national borders will be a big win-win.”
