The European Data Forum conference (EDF) is being held in Luxembourg from 16 to 17 September 2015 at the European Convention Centre of Luxembourg in Kirchberg; it is an annual meeting between industry, research, public authorities and community initiatives to discuss and exchange views on the current challenges of Big Data and economic data that is emerging in Europe.
Spurred by the recent developments around the “Big Data” and “data driven business”, Big Data has become the forth factor of production after the staff capital and natural resources. They offer new opportunities and confront new specialists with new challenges. The European Data Forum is trying to find a balance between the perspectives and technical approaches, socio-economic and business oriented, to develop a multidisciplinary community of stakeholders in the sector. Particular attention is paid to innovation and business opportunities offered by the technology and exploitation of data, all in the perspective of creating a single European digital market.
This year, EDF will be one of the official events of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2015. The conference is organised locally by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), in partnership with the University of Luxembourg, the Office of EU Publications and Luxinnovation with the support of the Department of Media and Communications of the State Ministry, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Economy.
The programme will consist of presentations, plenary sessions, and networking sessions animated by industrial, academic, policy makers, and leaders of community initiatives. Topics covered during the conference will cover a broad spectrum of themes ranging from developments and technological applications or research on socio-economic aspects of data value chain. The 2015 edition is on the theme of exploitation and integration of data.
The forum will be opened by Marc Hansen, State Secretary for Higher Education and Research, and Günter Oettinger European Commissioner for the Economy and the Digital Society. Several renowned speakers have already confirmed their presence and will be announced shortly. Selected presentations among the 100 contributions received through the call for papers will complete the conference programme.
Finally a space for an exhibition will provide information on products, services and the latest projects in the field of the economy of European data and more. The European Data Innovator Award will be awarded for third time at this edition in 2015 and the Pan-European Open Data Portal will be officially launched at the event.
