A screening of Ghostbusters took place as part of the City Open Air Cinema in Place Guillaume II (Knuedler), on the evening of Monday 24 July 2023.

Organised by the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg – VdL) and the Cinémathèque, the open-air cinema was ready to receive visitors early, with Cinémathèque employees (some in ghostbusters outfits) handing out programmes. Two thirds of the hundreds of seats were already taken a full half hour before the beginning of the screening.

A Cinémathèque representative briefly addressed the audience, mentioning that the Cinémathèque is currently closed as it is focusing on this nightly series (and also giving people a chance to go see “Barbenheimer”  - Barbie and Oppenheimer - first), but she also introduced the upcoming programme “On the Road”, starting in August and running until September 2023. She expressed joy at how many people of all ages showed up to see Ghostbusters, the beloved classic starring Bill Murray, and she also asked the audience “If there's something strange in your neighbourhood, who ya gonna call?” Most of the audience chanted the reply in unison.

Drinks and snacks (popcorn included) were available nearby, the toilets were also clearly signalled. Despite the chilly weather, which certainly called for long sleeves and a jacket, there was a full house at the beginning of the film. Many were also sitting on the floor, further away from the screen, or on the benches nearby.

The next screenings will be: To Catch a Thief on Tuesday, Top Gun on Wednesday, a sing-along edition of Moulin Rouge on Thursday, and the silent film classic Modern Times on Friday 28 July 2023, the final day (all screenings are in English, with French subtitles).
