Amnesty International has announced details of three upcoming events dedicated to human rights in Luxembourg.

Being a young journalist in Palestine: meet Janna Jihad

The Luxembourg branch of this international non-governmental organisation is organising an online meeting with Janna Jihad, a young journalist from Palestine, on Friday 19 November 2021 at 12:30.

Ahead of Universal Children's Day, which takes place on 20 November, Amnesty International Luxembourg is inviting members of the public to discover the situation of children in Palestine. Janna Jihad, a young activist and journalist, will discuss some of the daily hardships that children and their families have been facing in Palestine for years.

This online event will be held in English via Zoom. Registration is via email: activisme@amnesty.lu (number of participants is limited).

This event is part of the "Write for Rights" campaign (see below).

Info break: Write for Rights

On Thursday 25 November 2021, Amnesty International Luxembourg will host an online meet-up to present the "Write for Rights" 2021 campaign. This information session will be held in French via Zoom from 12:30 to 13:30. Register via email: activisme@amnesty.lu.

Every year around International Human Rights Day (10 December), hundreds of thousands of people around the world send a letter, email or messages on social networks in support of someone they have never met. From 2,326 letters in 2001 to 4.5 million letters, tweets and signatures in 2020, Write for Rights participants are using the power of words to unite behind a common goal: to support people, wherever they are in the world.

Further information about the campaign is available at https://write4rights.amnesty.lu/.

Torchlight walk for human rights

After a break last year due to COVID-19, Amnesty International is organising its traditional torchlight walk again on Human Rights Day. The walk will depart in front of the former POST building in Hamilius in Luxembourg-Ville on Friday 10 December 2021 at 18:00.

This time, the walk will focus on the ten individuals and groups of the Write for Rights campaign; participants can also take action and support these individuals during a letter-writing evening immediately afterwards.

As in previous years, participants will walk through the streets of the city centre with torches in hand (candles will be available for children) as a symbol of hope. To make the procession more open and inclusive, the organisers have chosen a route without obstacles so that people with reduced mobility or families with prams can also join.
