On Tuesday 6 May 2025, Luxembourg's Brasserie Nationale, also known as the Bofferding Brewery, announced that its mineral water brand Lodyss has introduced a new 5-litre packaging format: the bag-in-box, also referred to as an eco pack.
According to Lodyss, this launch represents a further step in the brand’s environmental commitment, offering consumers a more sustainable and practical hydration option. The new format reduces plastic usage by more than 50% compared to equivalent volumes, is fully recyclable and is lighter and easier to store and transport.
The bag-in-box format is intended for a range of uses, including at home (e.g. in the refrigerator), in offices or meeting rooms, and for leisure or outdoor events. Its integrated tap facilitates serving, and the compact design improves space efficiency in both domestic and retail environments.
Lodyss reported that the packaging was developed in partnership with Smurfit Westrock, a specialist in sustainable packaging solutions, with the aim of maintaining Lodyss' water purity while meeting environmental standards.
The Binsfeld agency created the visual identity of the new product, highlighting elements of “purity” and “innovation.” The format will be rolled out in stores, advertising and on social media.
The bag-in-box will be available in supermarkets throughout Luxembourg and the Grand Est region, a northeastern French area bordering Luxembourg, as well as Germany and Switzerland, from May 2025. A special launch offer includes a complimentary Lodyss glass with the purchase of the eco pack at a "promotional price."
