The Grand Ducal Police have reported several arrests made on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 January 2026, in connection with fraud, shoplifting and the execution of an arrest warrant.

According to the police, on Thursday evening a person reported having fallen victim to a telephone fraud scheme, during which they disclosed their bank details. A substantial sum of money was subsequently withdrawn from the victim’s account. Following the investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested on the instruction of the public prosecutor’s office.

On Friday 9 January at around 17:00, a shoplifting incident was reported at a store on Avenue John F. Kennedy in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. According to the initial report, a police patrol located the suspect at the scene. Acting on orders from the public prosecutor’s office, the individual was arrested and later brought before an investigating judge on the morning of Saturday 10 January 2026.

Later that evening, police noticed a man near Avenue Monterey in Luxembourg-Ville, who fled upon seeing officers. After a short pursuit, he was apprehended on Rue du Fort Rheinsheim. During a check, drugs and cash were seized and it was established that an arrest warrant was outstanding against him. Following a medical examination, the suspect was taken to the Custodial Police Unit (CPU) in Sanem.
