A new website was launched by the Luxembourg National Tourist Board (ONT) yesterday with the aim of promoting business and congress tourism in the Grand Duchy.
The website highlights the advantages of Luxembourg as a business and congress destination, an important sector in the country's overall tourism development. Indeed, last year the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) branch alone resulted in 240,000 overnight stays, accounting for 14% of all hotel overnight stays.
The website, available in English, was developed by the ONT with the support of the Ministry of the Economy.
For ease of access, all relevant MICE information relative to Luxembourg has been categorised into four main sections: Infrastructure, featuring 109 private and public host venues such as hotels, tourist sites and cultural centres; Skills & Expertise, highlighting the advantages of selecting Luxembourg as a MICE destination in terms of nature, heritage, culture, sports, wellness, gastronomy and shopping; Major Events, organised in the form of a calendar to outline all the major culture, sports, leisure and fair events taking place throughout the year; and Partners & Services, including 27 event agencies, 12 catering services, 9 translator services, 12 audio-visual equipment providers, 4 comapnies offering security services, 3 limousine agencies and 10 coach transport providers, all available to facilitate a MICE event in Luxembourg.
The 'Plan my Event' tool may also be used by a client to input the type of event planned, the infrastructure and material required, the number of participants, and the location at which the event will take place. This information will then be forwarded to the 'Product & Trade' department of the ONT, who will evaluate the request and coordinate the offer to ensure client needs are met.
"As a unique point of reference, the website will serve as a real intermediate between all the companies offering their services in the MICE sector and potential client, especially those from other countries," Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, said of the website launch. "With this new website, we will guarantee a more effective promotion of the MICE sector and target that audience in particular. Our aim is to put Luxembourg even more on the map as a destination for business and congress tourism and MICE events".
The website has also been designed with mobile phone users in mind, meaning that the site adapts to the size of the device screen and facilitates mobile viewing. The website was programmed with Quilium, a 'Made in Luxembourg content management system (CMS).
