On Wednesday 23 April 2025, the finals of the Luxembourg Enovos Basketball League saw Gréngewald Hueschtert secure the women’s title, while Etzella Ettelbruck claimed a second win in the men’s championship series.
Regular season champions Gréngewald Hueschtert completed a clean sweep in the best-of-five finals series against Sparta Bertrange to secure the women’s Enovos League title. Having won the first two games, they sealed the championship at home in the third game.
The visitors led early in the match, with centre Bridget Yoerger, captain Lena Mersch and guard Regan Hayes Schenck contributing accurate shooting. However, the hosts soon took control, with guard Amanda Brooke Cahill scoring eight points in the opening quarter, which ended 22-17 in Gréngewald’s favour. By halftime, the lead had extended to nine points.
In the second half, Sparta Bertrange closed the gap to five points on two occasions during the third and fourth quarters but were unable to overtake their opponents. Gréngewald Hueschtert ultimately secured a 71-62 victory. Forward Alexus Latrese Johnson led all scorers with 35 points and added 23 rebounds.
Gréngewald Hueschtert are the 2024/25 women’s Enovos League champions – their third consecutive title and fourth overall in club history.
Meanwhile, the men’s Enovos Basketball League finals series is still underway. Etzella Ettelbruck have taken the second of three required victories in their quest to reclaim the championship title they narrowly missed in last year’s final against Amicale Steinsel.
This season, Etzella face T71 Dudelange, who eliminated the defending champions in the semi-finals. Gavin Love’s team currently lead the best-of-five series 2-0. They dominated Game One at home with a 26-point win (97-71). The second match, played away, was far more competitive and remained undecided until the final seconds.
The teams were tied 37-37 at halftime, but an eight-point effort from guard Edward Colbert Iii and seven points from forward Joe Kalmes gave Dudelange a 66-62 lead going into the final quarter. However, with three minutes remaining, Etzella forward Jimmie Lee Taylor Iii levelled the score at 80-80, and the visitors went on to secure a 92-86 win.
Taylor was the game’s top scorer with 30 points, while teammate Quatarrius Deaundrey Wilson posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Game three of the finals series is scheduled to take place in Ettelbruck on Sunday 27 April 2025.
