The 18th edition of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg brought together around 17,000 participants on Saturday 31 May 2025, with the race starting and finishing at LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
This year’s event featured runners from 59 countries competing over the 42.195 km course. In addition to the main marathon, the programme included a half marathon, a team relay (Team Run), and the 5K Run For Success, aimed at beginner runners. Younger participants joined the Minimarathon (ages twelve and up) or the Mini Minimarathon (under twelve), while the Roll&Run invited individuals to complete a 7 km route “on wheels” through the Limpertsberg district.
James Dunn claimed victory in the men’s marathon, representing Luxembourg and completing the 42.195 km course in 2 hours, 29 minutes and 4 seconds. He also set the best-ever result by a host nation runner at the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg.
“I’m happy with the result. The course is never going to produce a quick time here, but I’m quite pleased with how I executed the race,” said James Dunn, winner of the men’s marathon at the 2025 ING Night Marathon Luxembourg, in comments to Chronicle.lu. “I just did my own thing and didn’t think about winning. Then I got to the end and thought, alright, okay. I asked the guy behind me what the gap was, and he said, ‘Oh, it’s over a minute.’ I didn’t think I’d be that far ahead, but yes, I’m very happy tonight.”
Germany’s Caleb Trabizsch finished second in the men’s marathon with a time of 2:33:45. Luxembourg’s Luc Scheller secured third place, crossing the finish line in 2:37:38.
Edith Steipel from Germany secured win in the women’s marathon. Her finish time was 3 hours 13 minutes 32 seconds. She was joined on the podium by Tatiana Proca of Moldova, who finished second with a time of 3:15:01 and Luxembourg’s Karin Schank, who took third place in 3:15:54.
In the men’s half marathon at the 2025 ING Night Marathon Luxembourg, Benjamin Polin (France) claimed first place with a time of 1 hour 5 minutes 56 seconds. He was followed by Simon Bong from Germany in second place (1:09:52) and Joao Cruz from Portugal in third (1:13:08).
“I had never run this course before, so it really gave me chills. It makes you want to speed up, you don’t feel your legs anymore, you can’t even hear yourself breathing,” said Benjamin Polin from France, winner of the half marathon at the 2025 ING Night Marathon Luxembourg. “So it was really magical! Of course, it makes you want to accelerate, but 21 km is still long. I’m happy. I wanted to do 1:06. I did exactly 1:06, so it’s quite improbable, but it was good,” he told Chronicle.lu.
In the women’s half marathon, victory went to Germany’s Teresa Frank, who completed the course in 1:21:50.
"I'm very happy because I was ill last week and couldn’t train, but I’m really pleased with my result today," Teresa Frank told after completing the half marathon. "I think my biggest win today was running with my friends from training. The atmosphere was great, so yes – I’m very happy."
