Patrizia Van der Weken Finishes 6th in European 100m Final

Two years earlier, at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, Van der Weken had finished fourth in the 100m final in 11.04 seconds, narrowly missing out on a medal.On Monday 10 August 2026, Luxembourg sprinter Patrizia van der Weken finished sixth in the women's 100m final on the opening day of the European Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The 26-year-old, who received a direct entry into the semi-finals based on her European ranking, competed in the first of three semi-final races. She crossed the line in 11.08 seconds, finishing second behind Great Britain's Amy Hunt, who clocked 10.99 seconds. Overall, Patrizia van der Weken qualified for the final with the fourth-fastest time, behind Switzerland's Géraldine di Tizio-Frey (11.02), Poland's Eva Swoboda (11.04) and Amy Hunt.

Running from lane five in the final, the Grand Duchy sprinter recorded 11.10 seconds, matching the time of defending European champion Dina Asher-Smith. However, it was not enough to secure a place on the podium.

Luxembourg's attention now turns to Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann, who will compete in the women's 5,000m final on Tuesday 11 August at 19:25 after receiving a place through the European Athletics reallocation process. She is also entered in the women's 1,500m, with the first round scheduled for Saturday 15 August. Should she qualify, the final will take place on Sunday 16 August.

Ruben Querinjean will compete in the men's 3,000m steeplechase heats on Thursday 13 August at 11:30. If he qualifies, he will return for the final on Sunday.
