On Tuesday 6 October 2026, the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC) reported on the Grand Duchy's first participation in the fourth edition of the Coupe des Régions (Regional Cup) para athletics competition, held in Florange, France, on Saturday 3 October 2026.

According to the committee, the Luxembourg delegation took part at the invitation of the Commission Athlétisme Handisport and comprised six para athletes competing in various running and throwing events. The competition brought together eleven French regional delegations alongside the Luxembourg team.

In the sprint events, Massimo Saputo (T47) and Ashish Ramsurrup (T46) competed in the 100m and 400m. Both delivered strong performances, with Massimo Saputo winning the 400m in 1:01.22, ahead of Ashish Ramsurrup, who finished in 1:05.78.

Their coach, Sid, said: "I am very satisfied with their performances, especially as they only resumed training a short time ago. This competition allowed them to gradually get back into the rhythm of competition and assess where they stand."

For Sandra Schwinninger (T72), the competition marked her second international appearance in Frame Running, following the Frame Running Open Cup in Denmark in July. She recorded 25.47 seconds in the 100m and 1:44.40 in the 400m.

Mario Filipe Correia Almeida was also part of the Luxembourg delegation and competed in wheelchair racing for the first time, having completed several training sessions with Katrin Kohl during the summer, according to the committee.

For Katrin Kohl (T54), the competition marked the end of her wheelchair racing career after several years in the discipline, including participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. She competed in the 400m in Florange, finishing second as the only woman in the event. In 2024 and 2025, Katrin Kohl was also part of the LPC elite squad.

According to the committee, Katrin Kohl returned to wheelchair racing in 2026 after a one-year break following the Paris Paralympics and recorded several personal bests during the season. She finished third in the 800m at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai in February in a personal-best 2:15.78, earning her first podium on the World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit. In Arbon, Switzerland, she twice improved her 200m personal best, eventually recording 35.36 seconds, as well as setting a new 400m personal best of 65.34 seconds.

Katrin Kohl said: "You have to stop when things are at their best. After a year with many personal bests, I decided to end my wheelchair racing career. I am very happy that I returned to competition after the Paris Paralympic Games and was able to experience this final season with so many strong performances."

In Florange, Katrin Kohl also competed in shot put for the first time. She now plans to explore throwing disciplines and is set to try discus and javelin before deciding in which discipline to continue her sporting career.

Roberto de Almeida Lomba recorded 5.59m in his first shot put competition. An athlete in the Promotion squad with previous competition experience in para judo, he used the event to gain his first experience of shot put under competition conditions, the committee reported.

The competition concluded with the 4x100m relay, featuring Massimo Saputo, Ashish Ramsurrup, Katrin Kohl and Sandra Schwinninger. According to the committee, due to their different sport classifications, the four athletes did not meet the requirements to compete in a standard universal relay, but the event gave them the opportunity to compete together in a relay for the first time.
