
On Monday 28 April 2025, the Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in February and March 2025.
International Protection
A total of 168 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in February 2025, (down from 188 in January 2025 but up from 152 in February 2024). In March 2025 the number of applicants decreased to 134 (145 in March 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 490 applications for international protection - up from 458 received during the same period in 2024.
114 decisions on asylum applications were taken in February 2025, with 24 applicants being granted refugee status (42 in January). In March, 83 decisions were taken, with 22 applicants receiving refugee status.
So far in 2025, most applications have come from Syrian nationals (72), followed by Eritreans (62), Algerians (58), Colombians (31), Moroccans (27) and Tunisians (23).
Temporary Protection
A total of 88 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in February 2025 (down from 102 in January). In March, 63 people applied for this status. So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 253 such applications.
A total of 89 decisions on temporary protection applications were taken in February, with 79 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (96 in January); 10 were rejected. In March, 3,774 applications were received, of which 3,714 were application renewals. Decisions on all 3,774 applications were taken with four being rejected.
Most new applicants in February (172) and March (58) were Ukrainian nationals. The ministry received applications from twelve Algerian nationals and another six from unspecified countries in February 2025. They also received five applications from unspecified countries in March 2025.
