The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) have reported that a fire erupted in a cosmetic industry company on the night of Tuesday 13 August 2024.
Shortly after 22:00 on Tuesday, the CSU-112 was informed of a fire in a cosmetics industry company, located in the Wolser Ouest economic activity area in Bettembourg.
As a precautionary measure, the CGDIS asked the general population living in the Bettembourg, Hellange and Dudelange areas to close their windows, due to heavy smoke.
Upon the firefighters’ arrival, they encountered a storage hall that was completely engulfed in flames. In addition to using fire escape ladders, numerous pairs of firefighters equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus fought the flames in the impacted building with several hoses and thus prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent halls, the CGDIS reported.
Around 60 firefighters from seven fire and rescue centres (CIS) joined forces with a health officer and a drone specialist. The Operational Technological Support Group (GATO) led the operation, overseeing the area. Additionally, a Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, and Chemical (NRBC) Risk Protection Group were mobilised to the site to assist during the operation.
To optimise the management of operations on site and ensure national operational coverage, the Operations Management Centre (CGO) was activated, the CGDIS added.
The fire was reportedly extinguished around 23:30 and following analyses carried out by the CGDIS, no risk to the population was observed at any time.
No injuries were reported.
