On Thursday 31 August 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture responded to news that local artist Marc Henri Reckinger has died just days after being named the winner of the Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis (Luxembourg art prize) 2024.

The late artist was 83 years old at the time of his death; the news of his death was announced on social media on Thursday morning.

A statement issued by the ministry described Marc Henri Reckinger as "a pioneer of the Luxembourg art scene, a tireless activist denouncing the excesses of capitalism in his paintings." He also co-founded several artistic movements in Luxembourg such as the Konsdrëffer Scheier (1967) and the Arbeitsgruppe Kunst (1968; later known as Initiative 69).

"Today we honour a man and a passionate artist, who never stopped innovating and fighting, thanks to his art, for a better world," stated the ministry.

The statement concluded by expressing the "most sincere condolences" of Luxembourg's Minister for Culture, Sam Tanson, and the entire ministry to Marc Henri Reckinger's family and loved ones.
