Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection has announced that a rabbit haemorrhagic disease (R.H.D.) type 2 has been detected in several rabbit farms across the Grand Duchy in recent months.
This is a viral disease that evolves without specific symptoms and can cause high mortality in the farms. It is highly contagious.
A specific vaccine against the type 2 disease is available and it is recommended that rabbits receive a preventive vaccine by a veterinarian, especially if rabbits are for sale or on display at exhibitions, etc.
Any abnormal mortality of rabbits should be reported in order to carry out laboratory tests necessary to confirm or invalidate the disease.
