On Wednesday 17 June 2015, le Collège des bourgmestre et échevins de la Ville de Luxembourg et l’asbl inaugurated a new facility that will brighten streets Rue Philippe II and Avenue de la Porte-Neuve until mid August 2015: fluorescent strings creating a canvas that light up the night sky.
The unusual installation was a concept developed by various enterprises along the two streets, from opticians to jewellery designers, who collaborated on the project as a means of presenting their shared space as a welcoming environment for visitors during the summer months.
The initiative follows the vibrant 2014 project "Let the Sunshine in", which involved multi-coloured umbrellas floating in rows high above the street. Both pieces have been enthusiastically received by the City of Luxembourg, with this year's idea demonstrating the willingness of businesses to work together as a community and participate in the development of the city's public spaces.
It is hoped Look up!'s bright lights will reinforce Luxembourg's status as a bustling commercial destination and help create a friendly atmosphere in the heart of the City.
