On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 February 2024, the Hall du Deich in Ettelbruck hosted an inaugural Luxembourg Fishing Exhibition (Salon de la pêche).

Organised by the Ettelbruck Sportfishing Club and R&S Fishing in Mersch, the main hall saw around ten exhibition stands with international fishing brands on show, with a 15% discount offered on normal retail prices throughout the event.

While the stands focussed mainly on coarse fishing, with carp the main target species. one stand was taken by the FLPS-M Luxembourg, the Fédération Luxembourgeoise des Pêcheurs Sportifs - Mer - which focussed on sea fishing.

Many of the stands had rods and poles on display, with keep nets and landing nets, as well as bankside seats, etc. Then there were reels, line (both monofilament and braid) as well as floats, hooks and sinkers. Other displays included baits, from different groundbait and flavourings to boilies, etc.

The organisers offered free entry throughout the event, and they also had a tombola which had prizes ranging from fishing tackle, a fishing seat and fishing lamps, to whiskey and car accessories.

While there was nothing on the day for fly fishing, that discipline of the sport of fishing will be catered for on Wednesday 21 February at the Ciné Sura in Echternach, when the 2024 RISE Fly Fishing Film Tour comes to the Grand Duchy. The touring event is in its 18th year - with 300+ shows in fourteen countries - and comprises the screening of a selection of short films on fly fishing, both saltwater and freshwater, and also offers giveaways during the evening.
