On Friday 18 September 2026, Luxembourg cider and juice producer Ramborn Cider Co announced that this year's meadow orchard apple harvest is smaller than in 2025, due to the natural alternate-bearing cycle of fruit trees and prolonged drought in recent months.
According to Ramborn the extended period of drought has also affected the harvest, with newly planted and older trees, as well as those affected by mistletoe, particularly vulnerable to the conditions.
"We're used to annual fluctuations in the harvest. That's why we always keep at least a full year's reserve of cider. We work in rhythm with nature," said Head of Ramborn Bill Hein.
Despite the smaller harvest, the company noted that abundant sunshine has increased sugar concentrations in this year's apples, resulting in aromatic juice. The fruit will therefore mainly be processed into juices and apple soda.
Ramborn stressed the importance of regular care in preserving Luxembourg's meadow orchards, particularly in view of changing climate conditions. It noted that existing state and municipal support programmes provide assistance to meadow orchard owners.
Apple collection at Ramborn will begin on Saturday 26 September 2026. Meadow orchard owners wishing to deliver apples are asked to register in advance by email. Information on the collection process, opening hours and current purchase prices is also available from the company.
The following day, Sunday 27 September 2026, Ramborn will hold its annual Public Harvesting Day at the Ramborn Cider Haff in Born. Visitors will be able to see how fresh juice is pressed from apples, pears and quinces, as well as learn about the management of meadow orchards and Ramborn's production process, noted the company.
