On Thursday 10 April 2025, Film Fund Luxembourg announced the official selections for the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival have been made and feature two Luxembourg co-productions.
The first, feature film Un Simple Accident, directed by Jafar Panahi, has been selected for the official competition. Bidibul Productions (Christel Henon and Lilian Eche) co-produced the film. The second, animated film Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol, directed by French filmmaker Sylvain Chomet, has been selected for the official selection - special screening. This feature is also a co-production by Bidibul Productions (Lilian Eche and Christel Henon), alongside French and Belgian partners.
Film Fund Luxembourg described Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol as “a poetic tribute to the world of Marcel Pagnol, reimagined through the eyes of his childlike alter ego” which “delves into his memories and journey, closely intertwined with the major events of the 20th century and the evolution of cinema”. Producer Lilian Eche brought the project to Luxembourg in collaboration with Doghouse Studio, which handled the layout, colour sets and 2D animation, and Philophon Studios, which managed sound post-production.
To promote Luxembourg’s film industry on the international stage, Film Fund Luxembourg announced it would maintain an active presence at Cannes from Tuesday 13 to Thursday 22 May 2025, via its pavilion at the International Village. It will host around 20 organisations at the pavilion, including production companies, businesses specialising in post-production, sound or new technologies, as well as institutions such as the EAVE programme, the Luxembourg City Film Festival and the Creative Europe - Media programme.
The traditional Luxembourg Day at Cannes will take place on Saturday 17 May 2025 in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, along with numerous professionals from the audiovisual production sector and members of the press.
