On Friday 8 October 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Internal Security announced that Annelies Verlinden, Gérald Darmanin and Henri Kox, ministers in charge of internal security for Belgium, France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, respectively, signed the Luxembourgish-Franco-Belgian convention concerning the use and management of cross-border radiocommunication means.

In France, the border units of the Eastern defence and security zone are concerned by this agreement; in Belgium, the corresponding border zone and in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the corresponding border zones are covered by this agreement.

The purpose of the agreement is to set up a procedure for using radio interoperability means between the dispatching of the police and gendarmerie services of the departments of Ardennes, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse and the Moselle for France, the police services of the provinces of Luxembourg, Namur and Liège for Belgium and the police services of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

This administrative arrangement is established under the convention implementing the Schengen Agreements and aims to optimise and facilitate the transmission of information between police services located in border areas in order to increase efficiency and security in the framework of the fight against cross-border crime.

This convention was signed, on the sidelines of the Justice and Home affairs (JHA) Council, the meeting of ministers responsible for internal affairs of the European Union, which took place today in Luxembourg.
