The Grand Ducal Police have reported the arrest of a motorist who fled a police check in Luxembourg-Hollerich on Tuesday 12 November 2024.

Early Tuesday evening, a driver was stopped for a traffic check in Hollerich for an infringement. When the police ordered the driver to stop, he accelerated and engaged in a car chase with the police throughout the district. This resulted in several traffic violations, including the driver racing head-on towards a police car on Rue de Hollerich, with the patrol car able to swerve at the last moment to avoid a collision.

Despite a puncture on the front axle, the driver was able to continue to flee until he sustained further damage to the car on Rue d'Alsace and was unable to drive further after a few hundred metres. The driver then abandoned the car and fled on foot. Shortly afterwards, however, the male fugitive was identified and taken to the police station.

It turned out that the car was not properly registered and a baton was also found in the vehicle. An alcohol test came back negative, but the rapid drug test was positive.

The public prosecutor's office was informed and the man was arrested and brought before the examining magistrate on the morning of Wednesday 13 November 2024. The car was confiscated and the incident was recorded.
