Luxembourg's Prison Administration has reported that a fire broke out at the Uerschterhaff prison in Sanem on the evening of Thursday 7 August 2025.

The blaze broke out inside the facility at around 20:20.

On-site prison officers acted swiftly to bring the fire under control within a short time.

No inmates were injured. However, one prison officer sustained injuries during the intervention and was taken to hospital for treatment; he was discharged shortly afterwards.

The management of the Uerschterhaff prison, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and the Grand Ducal Police were present at the scene. The management of the Prison Administration and the Ombudsman (as external inspector of places of deprivation of liberty) were immediately informed of the incident.
