The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a series of thefts and break-ins took place in Luxembourg over the past days.
On Thursday 7 August 2025, at around 02:20, police on Rue de Beggen in Luxembourg City received a report of a theft from a delivery van. Initial information indicates that a suspect gained access to the van and stole several items, which were then loaded into another vehicle.
A police patrol quickly responded and located the vehicle during a manhunt. The driver fled towards Walferdange (chased by police) and eventually escaped on foot near Rue du Chemin de Fer but was apprehended. A female suspect was also found inside the vehicle and several pieces of construction equipment were recovered.
The public prosecutor's office ordered the arrest of the two suspects, who were scheduled to appear before an investigating judge on the afternoon of Friday 8 August 2025.
On Thursday afternoon, the police received reports of a theft from a vehicle on Rue Glesener in the capital's train station district (Luxembourg-Gare), where a tablet was stolen. The suspect was apprehended during a manhunt. By order of the public prosecutor's office, the stolen property was returned to its rightful owner. A formal report was filed.
Another theft from a vehicle was reported overnight on Rue de Bonnevoie, also in Luxembourg-Gare. According to preliminary information, the perpetrator took advantage of the victim's momentary distraction (the victim was on the phone next to the vehicle) to steal a wallet through the passenger door. The suspect was apprehended during a manhunt. A report was drawn up on the order of the public prosecutor's office.
That same night, police were notified of a robbery on Rue du Fort Neipperg in Luxembourg-Gare. According to initial information, two male suspects confronted a man demanding money. When the victim refused, one of the perpetrators displayed a knife and both men became physically aggressive toward the victim. The suspects eventually stole the victim's mobile phone and fled towards the upper town (Ville-Haute). An investigation has been launched.
On Friday, the police also noted that they had received reports of several burglaries. Late on Thursday afternoon, an apartment in a building on Route de Peppange in Bettembourg was burglarised. An unknown perpetrator reportedly entered the building and rummaged through the premises. However, the suspect feld after being disturbed by the presence of a resident. An immediate manhunt was launched but proved unsuccessful.
Another burglary was reported on Thursday evening in an apartment in a building on Rue d'Avalon in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, where unknown perpetrators gained entry. Further investigations on-site revealed that the perpetrators had also attempted - unsuccessfully - to access another apartment in the same building.
Investigations have been launched in both cases.
