Following his visit to Brazil earlier this week, Luxembourg Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, was in Chile on Thursday on a working visit.
Minister Assembord had visited Chile at the invitation of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Chile, Heraldo Muñoz, and the two met in the South American country's capital city, Santiago.
Ministers Asselborn and Muñoz welcomed the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, while expressing belief that relations between Chile and Luxembourg, be it political, economic or cultural level, could be further strengthened. In this context, the ministers agreed on the need to quickly conclude negotiations on a non-double taxation agreement between the two countries.
Discussions also presented an opportunity for the ministers to take stock of the situation in Chile, its relations with neighbouring countries and to discuss the regional integration process in Latin America.
Regarding relations between Chile and the European Union, the Ministers had an extensive exchange of views on the process of modernisation of the association agreement that will strengthen relations between the EU and Chile.
The two Foreign Ministers also addressed recent major events of international politics, including the latest developments in Syria and Iraq, before taking stock of the political situation in Europe in the context of the migration crisis.
