Luxembourg's Economic Committee has granted requests for short-time work (partial unemployment) for over 13,600 employees for the month of February 2022.

The Economic Committee met on Tuesday 25 January 2022 under the chairmanship of Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, and the Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Georges Engel.

At this meeting, the Economic Committee granted 1,338 requests for partial unemployment for the month of February 2022 (up from 674 requests for January).

Among these requests, 859 were related to simplified structural economic problems linked to COVID-19. 59 others related to the manufacturing sector. Moreover, 419 requests were considered to be a case of force majeure (including ten related to companies having suffered damage following the floods of 14 and 15 July 2021), whilst 409 requests came from companies which have been directly affected by the closure of restaurants, cafes and nightclubs at 23:00, a government health measure which has been in force since 25 December 2021. One of the requests was related to economic dependence.

The granted requests for the month of February concern 13,628 full-time employees (up from 11,500 in January).

During this meeting, the new terms and conditions for the application of partial unemployment for the period from March to June 2022 were also discussed.
