STATEC has revealed that paid employment in Luxembourg increased by 0.7% in the first quarter of 2017, with an increase of 3.3% over 12 months.
Specialised activities and support services, with a year-on-year increase of 6.1%, and "other activities", with +6.0% year-on-year, were the most dynamic sectors. In the case of the first sector, this favourable development comes from accounting and domestic cleaning activities, while for the latter, it is due to the activities of associative organisations.
These two sectors, which cover 20% of paid employment, were responsible for 36% of net job creation between the first quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017.
The number of border workers evolved a little faster than the number of resident workers: +3.9% compared with +2.7% over one year. Among the residents, the number of workers from the European Union increased by 2.8% and the number of workers from third countries increased by 10.8%.
